I wanted to share with you some of my experiences of our annual summer vacation in Croatia on island Cres. I wanted to visit this island for a quite some time and try camping in the nature. Some of things that I discovered were, that the island is big, windy, with hard to reach beautiful natural beaches, a great food and beautiful views. The only downside was, that we had cold weather and some rainy days. When you are camping you really want to make sure, that there will be warm and sunny weather!!
We were situated in the camping called Kovačine. It’s a really big camping area, with different price areas and parcels for tents, vans, campers, boats, etc. The camping has a little grocery store, where you can find almost everything, a bar, restaurant, little marina, sports center and more. It has everything you need to have on vacation in Croatia.
On the island Cres the main city is also called Cres. It is connected to the camping area with a beautiful footpath by the sea. It takes approximately 20 minutes by foot and the city center is really old but really really busy at summer. Lots of restaurants, cocktail bars and we even found a little shop with local food.
We were there for nine days and the weather was not on our side. Mostly it was windy, rainy and cold-ish. Not what I was expecting at all! For we managed. When the days where not so good to spend them on the beach, we were exploring the island, the main cities and touristic areas.
I was so cold in Osor that I needed to wear a neck-sweather. But we were having fun anyways, with watching boats driving through canal and eating warm pizzas!
The next place we went to visit was one of the famous beaches on the island Orlec. It lays bellow the cliffs of Orlec. There is a wonderful view on neighboring island Krk. But that day was so windy, that we couldn’t go for a walk and see the cliffs and the beach.
Martinščica is one of the most unique places on the island. The beaches are all natural and the village is not packed with tourists! It’s a small fisherman village with a few apartments, a shop, a bar and a restaurant. The seagulls were flying above tiny fisherman boats, and there was a quiet natural beach with stones and clear water.
Further more, I left for you the best destination of the island Cres for the last. The last destination was a medieval village called Lubenice, situated on one of the highest points of the island. With a breathtaking view on the sea and a world famous St. Ivan beach.
Although it was cold on our vacation, we did manage to do everything we had in plan to visit.
ISLAND CRES CROATIA
If you’ll ever be on island Cres you must definitely:
- visit village Lubenice and St. Ivan beach
- see the moving bridge in Osor, the link between two islands
- visit city Cres if you like crowds of people
- visit the Martinščica bay if you like quite and peaceful places
- if you like more “commercial”&filled with people camping, choose camping Kovačine
- if you like more natural camping with less people, choose camping Slatina or Bijar
- visit the cliffs of Orlec.
I hope this was somehow helpful to you. The raw description of this Croatian island Cres. Since I’m not a travel blogger, there should be a lot of information missing. But do not hesitate to leave me a comment with any questions! I would be glad to answer some questions. With no further due, I will see you in my next blog post!
