How To Start Eating More Plant Based Food?

How to start eating more plant based foods? The answer is really easy: Just do it! It is that simple. But here is a guide for you with tips that helped me. I started eating plant based diet around seven years ago and I don’t miss any meat or dairy. This was one of the best choices that I made in my life.

The “Why”:

Firstly I would like to ask you, why do you want to start eating this diet? Is it, because everyone is talking about it? Is it, because you could take beautiful pictures for Instagram? Or, is it for you? Or for planet? Or for the animals? Try to think about this in a peaceful moment and decide. Because, that reason/that why will keep you motivated through the cravings of bad food. Every person has a different “why”. Find your own reason, why you want to do this. 

Notice That:

Everybody is different. You need to do this individually. There is no need to copy someone else’s eating habits or food plan. You are your own person, you need different types of nutrients. That depends on age, what do you do for living, if you have children or you’re pregnant. Someone who is working in construction will have different needs from the person who works in the office. A pregnant woman needs a few nutrients more for the baby. Just keep in mind that when you start changing your diet.

Remember:

Due to high popularity of plant based diet in every corner of the world, you can find healthy substitutes for every unhealthy food. There is nothing to be afraid of. Even in a small country like Slovenia (where I live), there is a lot of plant based options in almost every store now. Also for meat, there are delicious substitutes to try out. So, don’t be scared to try new foods. 

About Cooking:

Hence, you’ll need to start cooking or preparing food by your own. By that, I don’t mean that you need to be stuck in a kitchen every day all day. But every other day would be great to prepare yourself a meal and try out new recipe with new ingredient. Set a plan for yourself, for example: “Every week I will try one new food or ingredient”. Keep it exciting and have a plan, otherwise you’ll go straight to bad food.

Eating Versatile:

Changing your diet is the same as changing your lifestyle. You’ll need to adapt to different habits that you want to create. So, I strongly recommend to keep it versatile. Go out and try food at local plant based restaurants, try out some different smoothie recipes in the mornings. Try every vegetable that you can find on market. Search online for amazing plant based recipes. Even download an e-book with plant based recipes. Common mistake that people on conventional diet think, is that there is so few plant based foods and they would run out of options. Let me say this to you, that is completely not true. Maybe it sems like that on the beginning. But as you’re learning more and more, fear goes away, cause there are a lot of plant based food options and recipes.

Nutrients:

As long as you keep your diet versatile there is no danger to be deficient of any nutrient. However, as you’re making great shift in your lifestyle, take a time and go to the doctors to check your blood before and after. Also, if you have any health issues, consult with your doctor. Furthermore, like I was saying in second paragraph, everyone body is different. Due to this fact, we must care for our bodies individually. Everybody needs different nutrients and with that different supplements. If you are healthy and just need a boost of energy, here are the supplements that I recommend

Social Aspect:

When you’ll start to change yourself into a different better person for yourself, others will notice. Some will accept that, some will not. Likewise, your family could be against this change. On you is to decide, how much and why do you want this for yourself. Like I was telling you in the first paragraph, your “why” will know the answer. If your “why” is strong enough, you’ll be still on the track making the change you want in your life, when the social pressure begins. Maybe at this point in your life, you’ll need to make a decision to let some people go and let some new people into your life. Keep that in mind when you’ll start to change your lifestyle and diet.

Eating Plant Based Diet:

Eating plant based diet is one of the best aspects of my life. Not only that I feel good, but also my diet contributes to the safety of environment and animals. Do a research on effects of plant based diet on nature in comparison to conventional diet. Start with reading here. Plant based diet is not only healthy for you but also for the planet. I adore spending time in nature,at sea, in forests and mountains. So for me the choice was easy.
