Today I will talk about the benefits of spirulina which is a blue-green algae.
I have spirulina as my super food supplement at the moment. Because I have a full time job I have it as tablets. It is so much easier to use it that way. I really enjoy super foods. I am aware of a stress in my life, so usually I always take one super food at a time. Currently I have spirulina, before spirulina I had maca. Before maca, baobab for example.
Spirulina has very high content of proteins up to 60 %. As proteins it contains all of the essential amino acids and also methionine, cysteine, lysine. But it has also a lot of minerals such as iron 28.5 mg, manganese 1.9 mg, sodium 1048 mg and magnesium 195 mg*. It has a few beneficial vitamins as thiamine (B1) 2.38 mg, riboflavin (B2) 3.67 mg and niacin (B3)*. And some good fats (8 %) as linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. In researches they found antioxidants from groups of carotenoids, phenols and chlorophyll.

Spirulina doesn’t have B12 in bioactive form, so there is no absorbtion of it in human body. Also, it si recommended, that you buy only certified organic spirulina. Because if it is not produced properly it can contain toxins and heavy metals, which are bad, expecialy for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Spirulina organically produced can lower cholesterol, blood pressure, blood lipids and sugar.
I would recommend spirulina for those who have low iron in blood, for plant-based diet beginners, because of high protein. And for everyone, if you just want some better nutrient intake as a prevention for everyday stress.
